Bret Michaels - Diabetes

Celebrity Apprentice fans are eager to find out how the rocker from Poison, Bret Michaels, is doing after it was reported last Thursday he was admitted to intensive care after suffering a brain hemorrhage.  He has been know for having Type 1 diabetes since he was child.

40th Anniversary of Earth Day

Today marks the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day -  a day to plant trees, recycle and remind ourselves to be more environmentally friendly.

The United Nations recognition of Earth Day coincides with the spring equinox–often March 20–and was created by peace activist John McConnell in 1969. Today’s April 22nd celebration started as an environmental teach-in that took place in 1970, founded by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson.

Earth Day offers opportunities to protect the environment and save money at the same time. Here are a some ideas that we can all try to do: recycle and reuse, drive less and use public transportation more, use programmable thermostats, use reusable shopping bags, unplug unused electronics or appliances and pay bills online.

Although the Global Earth Day Celebration is today, it’s never too late to have an Earth Day theme at your meeting. Take the Salt Off the Table

According to new reports, thousands of lives could be saved by the reduction of dietary sodium intake.  It is noted the average daily sodium intake for Americans is 50% above the daily recommended amounts.

Some tips for reducing your salt consumption:

Read labels
Avoid processed foods
Only use low sodium, no salt, or no sodium added, foods
Prepare foods with little or no salt

Discovery

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Yesterday, the space shuttle Discovery and its crew were launched from the Kennedy Space Center, destination the International Space Station. The 13-day mission largely aims to continue outfitting the interior of the station and prepare it for life after the shuttle program ends later this year. The end of 30 years of shuttle flights is approaching. After this flight, three missions remain on the schedule.
