Daytime Emmy Awards

Last night was the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

The big winner was The View, who ended Ellen DeGeneres’ four year winning streak as talk show host.

Good Morning America earned the morning program honors for the third time.

The lifetime achievement award went to PBS’ Sesame Street for 40 years of educating and entertaining children.

The Guiding Light earned one of its last trophies before it leaves the air after 72 years.

Tonic Sol-Fa at IACEP

Tonic Sol-fa will be on the main stage, performing their incredible a cappella hits at the International Association of Corporate Entertainment Producers (IACEP) 2009 Conference. The event will take place on September 9, 2009 between 6:30pm - Midnight in Henderson, NV at the Green Valley Ranch Resort. 

Although they are simply four voices and a tambourine, Tonic Sol-fa has spent the past decade carving their niche as the nation’s top vocal group. In that time, this quartet has been named one of the top five “must see” groups in America, has been awarded numerous original song and album awards in pop, gospel and holiday genres, appeared on NBC’s Today Show and in the pages of Newsweek magazine.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is an annual award that was created after World War II when President Truman wanted to honor civilian service during the war.

On Wednesday,  in the East Room of The White House, President Barack Obama awarded the nation’s highest civilian honor to 16 “agents of change.” He highlighted their accomplishments as examples of the goals a person can reach and the difference they can make in the lives of others.

The 16 honored at the ceremony were:

SHARK: a marine fish with a cartilaginous skeleton, a prominent dorsal fin, and toothlike scales. Most sharks are predatory, although the largest kinds feed on plankton.

Today is the end of Shark Week. Started by the Discovery Channel the summer of 1987, it is a week-long series dedicated to sharks.

SHARK: a person who unscrupulously exploits or swindles others.

At 42, Dara Torres Takes 8th at Swim Worlds

The 42 year old US swimmer, Dara Torres, appeared as a guest on NBC’s Today show this morning discussing her recent race. Torres finished eighth in the 50-meter freestyle final, Sunday in Rome, at the 2009 World Championships. Torres won the silver in the 50-meter freestyle at last year’s Beijing Olympic Games. Unfortunately, she has recently been bothered by an arthritic left knee that has a torn tendon.

Dara gave it her best and we’re really happy for her – 8th fastest in the world!

Dara shares her experience as a champion with audiences in her inspirational presentation “Never Give up your Dream.”
